GETTING INTO ST JOHNS UNIVERSITY & MY ORIENTATION EXPERIENCE ! | Tyler Simone

  1. Tyler Simone: Don't need to be rich to attend. CUNY is not a bad choice if thats what someone wants but I 110% encourage SJU, were LITTT <3 thanks for your comment lol
  2. W F F C **SITE UNDER CONSTRUCTION**: Great video! My daughter is also Tyler Simone spelled exactly like yours. She was accepted for 2017 and we are looking forward to visting in a few months. Best wishes to you!
  3. Tyler Simone: lol, monkeys ... is that how we refer to peoples with head wraps on... uhh? but anyways, it is not super easy to get in, i know a lot of people who received denial letters from this university. The first week of school is full with activities on the Strip & yes there a lot of events that take place on the strip while the weather's warm. lol me and my friends loved it... no one really complains about it, its a great opportunity to network with greek life... meet tons of people on campus but after about october... strip season is pretty much done. nothing else really happened on the strip after that but overall the events aren't all day and definitely not late at night so losing sleep ? lol ! no one throws parties on the strip...the first week of school people are trying to just turn up on the strip but no one threw parties on the strip especially not after the first week. - Thanks for your comment and view ! have a good day !
  4. Marcus Williams: Hola! I'm a black guy (tripped you up with "hola" didn't I?) and I migrated back to the south because SJU was actually disrespectful. It is super easy to get into this university so don't feel like you gotta bend over like it's John Stamos because this school ain't shit. Each day I woke up and questioned my reality as a human because there would literally be a block party on the strip outside my window and we're not going to talk about how I use to yell at monkeys 🐒 outside my window (head wrapped in full do-rag) just so I can get some sleep. Eaithee way, best wishes... Proud of ya! 🤗
  5. Mandi Creative: Tyler Simone thank you so very much! I still have one more year of junior high and highschool until i can sign up to go. So i want to plan early! I was trying to get good information. St johns have been coming to my junior high a lot but the only problem was thrt didnt explain much due to the tour so i wanted to know a bit more but i couldnt find anything that answered my question. So thank you very much for the information!
  6. Pinki Chumber: Tyler Simone thank you, this was very helpful
  7. Andie: what is shadow day?
  8. Hellosteph: The song in the beginning is MYY SONGGGG
  9. Tyler Simone: yes its annual, and I'm sorry i don't want to discuss my financial information on here. once u do ur fasfa and see what you've been awarded you will see how much it'll cost you out of pocket
  10. Tyler Simone: CueYourPassion CustomMadeIdeasAndMore so honestly just depends on what you’re interested in so if I were to try to remember at orientation they gave us like a notebook, some little gifts that have the schools name on them, and then when we moved in we got like a mini first aide kit for our dorm room and just a lot of informational things about the school including like T-shirts ETc. As for safety I know that our school takes the safety pretty seriously want to comes to who is coming in the building scanning in using your ID card and not allowing like just random people to be in the buildings or to be overnighted there’s a lot of security precautions being that it is in the city so you should be fine and I wish you best luck hopefully you get in to the school
  11. Tyler Simone: Hi, I am A business major so i'm not to experienced in the bio/pharmacy majors. However you will have a freshman advisor who will help you figure out where you want to take your career and how to do it here at SJU. The best bet would be to call the school, speak to the freshman center and they will be able to help you. I wouldn't be able to say yes its too late or no you can definitely change it because i don't wanna tell you what I'm not 100% sure about. For all majors, you will be in your major your freshman year unless you were placed undecided and you will take the required courses however throughout your undergraduate years you will have a mix of your core requirements like DNY, foreign language, english, writing, public speaking, philosophy, theology etc. mixed in with your major requirements. For example I take Theology (core requirements) with Law in business ( Major Requirement) for my second semester currently.
  12. Rose Bud: You had til May to reply right?
  13. Tyler Simone: you'll have until decision day which is generally may 1st to make your deposit.
  14. Tyler Simone: itsDeleysia yes you can choose who your roomates and suitemares are, deposit on time and you'll be fine
  15. Sammy A: If you don’t mind me asking what did you get on your sat or act
  16. Pagan45: Go to a Cuny and save money unless you're dead set on this school or you're rich.
  17. mother abigail: Do you have to take theology classes?
  18. Albertine Ineza: Hello. I applied to St. John's for this fall, and I'm confused if accepted students day is also orientation? OR there'll be an orientation day later.
  19. Blueswirl: can I e-mail you with a list of questions? lol
  20. Pinki Chumber: Hey what do you know about the pharmacy program at St. John's. Do you start the program freshman year or or do you start the program after you finish taking your prerequisites. I got into the biology major but I was looking into the pharmacy program. Is it to late to join the program or can I change it.
  21. Leslie Escobar: mother abigail they give a lot of financial aid!!
  22. Tyler Simone: I applied early action 2, so i believe i applied in November and then i heard back from them by January. So about two months.
  23. Tyler Simone: itsDeleysia yes
  24. Tyler Simone: Thank you so much !
  25. golden rays10: This is an Awesome Video about St John's University! You did such an Excellent job explaining the inside track of this wonderful NY University! Nice!!..Stay Storming!🙌📚
  26. Tyler Simone: Shadow day is when you basically get to spend the night with an student who lives here and you get to shadow them in class and see what campus life is like, for more info call SJU
  27. Tyler Simone: I honestly love how you continue to go back and forth with me about certain things that i truly haven't heard often from anyone here and i know seniors, freshman, sophomores & juniors. After i read your comment, I spoke with some of my upperclassmen friends and they were not even sure why you feel so negatively about a university that you spent money & time here... lmfao! Because you had boring professors in those theology courses does not mean every professor is like that. My closest friend took theology last semester and enjoyed it a lot, she said her professor actually made her care about the course because she assumed it'd be boring because who really wants to take theology early in the morning ? i do feel bad that you hated this university so bad and that the campus just didn't suit you. Being from NY almost everyone knows how respectable a degree from St johns is. As for food options, as you do know, this school is a commuter school meaning that on the weekends, a lot of the students that flood marillac, DAC etc are home. Most of the time, the residents on campus don't even leave our room to grab food unless it's monty's or dunkin in the morning because we were all tired from either parties or the long week lol !it can be annoying here and there but truthfully i don't see the point in opening those options when majority of the campus probably is too lazy to walk to DAC or Marillac on a weekend to eat there when we can just eat at months real quick, run to red storm or if you plan on doing work in marillac or the library, just grabbing dunkin. But who knows ? maybe if they kept them open more people would want to eat there. Im not getting paid by st johns or sponsored by st johns to make these videos or these comments so how you feel to me is perfectly ok and quite frankly, kind of irrelevant to my decision to be here or anyone else decision to attend this school. If you hate it so much and really wanna defer people away from this school ... try a blog or maybe even make your own video ? - thats a great outlet. And before i end this comment, just remember my business about my academics is completely taken care of, as my business is always taken care of. MY transfer into tobin at this moment is actually going just right- look out for my video regarding that ! coming soon !! so sad your friends got the run around... lol. have a good day once again thanks for your comment, view and your time !
  28. Miles Lowe: Plenty of religious universities have theology classes in which 1. you have an engaging professor or 2. you actually learn something or 3. they have options that are unique not the case with SJU theology classes at all. "Well rounded with theology" lmao thats a joke I had athiest kids in my classes as well as Muslims and Jewish students who did not benefit from a strictly catholic theology course. Many private/religious U's have religious courses that explore OTHER religions and that is how you become well rounded my naive child. Not by sitting in repetitive catholic based classes. Theology and Catholicism might as well be interchangeable at SJU but people wont find that out until enrolled. I'm Christian so obviously I was excited to take theology classes until I was in them and like I said they were dull one sided and repetitive. Easy A's but unlike most millennials I like to actually work for whatever comes my way. I came to sju with almost all my tuition covered however many of my roommates and people I met were naive and thought anything from 15-20k a year was good enough then had to leave after one semester or the end of the year because of how expensive both SJU and NYC are and I'm not saying SJU is at fault for that. I pointed out that "big scholarship" is a facetious term at SJU because everyone thinks they've got one but they don't always help much depending on what kind of household you come from so students reading/watching this shouldn't assume everything is fine and dandy since they think they got a big scholarship. LMAO shuttle bus...you clearly don't know anyone that lives in Henley they'll be the first to tell you that bus is MIA always. Please don't waste your time trying to defend the food options that close early on weekdays and are closed all weekend. How's that Dunkin line on Saturday and Sunday? Because you and I both know Monty's is serving three items the whole day on weekends. Meal exchange is about the best thing I can vouch for in terms of food. Utopia Ave has Regina's Umi and Nikkos which are all great buy very pricey for a college budget(so the whole crew is never down to order) whereas other universities literally anywhere have affordable food spots all around because thats college. However SJU is in a residential area so they're catering to that demographic. Like I said limited options but I should've added expensive. There's no "if I truly went to SJU" I did, I'm an Alum and for any HS Junior or Senior reading this...pick another school. Nothing she's saying negates a mediocre retention rate. Additionally you said you're in CPS but are a prospective biz major, Tobin is the school you're actually supposed to be in so good luck with that because the people I met in that predicament were given the run around about transferring into Tobin.
  29. Kagan Kiesel: How long did it take you to hear back from SJU after you applied?
  30. Maxine: What was your gpa?
  31. mother abigail: I'm applying this fall but I heard they don't give a lot of finical aid 😩
  32. Tyler Simone: omg, she'll love it ! good luck !!
  33. Blueswirl: can you pick who you share dorms with?
  34. Rose Bud: Tyler Simone Thanks. Was your 19,000 annual? How much do you pay out of pocket?
  35. Tyler Simone: First off, thank you for your comment & also Syracuse is not a state school, its a private university lmao... anyways... I do understand your point of view however since I've been at st. john's i have experienced some good and bad. I have been to UMD and other larger schools and yes however it is not as big as those schools, it is a lot of walking to class. St johns was built on a golf course so if you're not really into large hills to get to the major Buildings like DAC etc. than it is required to do some walking. It might not be a 20+ minute hike to class but it is at least anywhere from a 7-10 min walk to class. This school has a core requirement which you are aware of before you do come here so why would you choose this school for your freshman year if you did not enjoy the importance of the core requirements which by the way help to keep students well rounded and theology courses shouldn't have been such a surprise being that this a Catholic School. St. John's does offer a lot of their students scholarships and yes they do offer higher amounts of scholarships because of their costly tuition but if you did your research you would see that there are many ways to gain additional scholarships or even more financial aid. If you truly did come to SJU then you'd know that we have the Q46 & Q30 and a shuttle bus to bring you to the subway, off campus housing etc. And the F&E train are only about a ten minute ride on the Q46. So in my opinion, its not really anything to complain about being that majority of the students like the convince of the buses here. Just a small 4 minute walk from Gate 4, we have Pizzerias, italian restaurants, bagel places, cold stone, fast food etc. so if thats not good enough for you than idk what would be. I have a lot of friends who have even stated that their schools have not even close to the amount of food options that SJU has. On campus alone we have options for almost anyone. Thank you for your comment and view on my page, i wish you the best of luck at the institution you now attend.
  36. TheSpirit242: Thanks for this, I'm considering applying to this university and this helped me a lot. But, I have some questions. One, is the campus welcoming to non-Catholic students,(I'm not religious but I still like the school). Two, how are the dorms at the Queens campus? Three, how are the stem courses? Thanks!
  37. Tyler Simone: 3.56
  38. Tyler Simone: yes
  39. Miles Lowe: So #1 SJU is NOT a big campus lmao it takes 3 minutes to walk to class. Have you been to a state school like UF, UMD, Syracuse?? Where a scooter or bike is required or you're walking for 20+ minutes. You failed to mention the 70-77% retention rate. Student's do not stay at SJU they (like myself and many of the friends I made freshman year 2015) transfer to better schools becuase orientation and OL leaders and Tour Guides lie about everything. 90% of the professors suck and do not care about their students and have terrible reviews on rate my prof. I came into college with credits so i took some junior/senior level courses and was often told by classmates to get out while I can which I did. If you're a prospective student reading this: the only reason you should waste your money here (everyone gets a big scholarship but "big" is a facetious word given tuition) is if you're accepted into the honors program, or are a pharmacy, Business or Risk Mgmt major those are the only programs people seem to enjoy and have reputable professors. Lots of dry dull required theology courses, food options suck, its a commuter school so campus is empty and the slim food options are closed on the weekend, we are not close to subway station or good food spots outside of the meal plan the list goes on. The retention rate is trash for a great reason.
  40. Leslie Escobar: Yes but they aren't bad at all!
  41. Sophia Teresa: Hi,I am currently a senior and looking toward applying to St.Johns.My sister graduated from there and I have heard that it is a very great school.I was just wondering is it very selective ,because my worst fear right now is that my gpa is average and my grades from freshman to sophomore year weren't that great.During my Junior and this year I have been plugging through hard classes and have gotten better grades in those classes.I just don't know if at this point it could be possible to get in with a low gpa.I also volunteered my time over the summer in Europe at a hospital.I am just trying to do as much as I can so that when it comes to applying, that gpa doesn't make me seem like I don't work hard.Awesome video,I liked it a lot. :)
  42. Mandi Creative: Hey, my junior high took a trip there two days ago and I want to know. I am planning to go there in the future but. What are we given when we arrive? Can you sum up what st.johns is like. I mean no matter what I’m going lol. Since I was 5 when I saw it I instantly wanted to go. But I just want to know more about the school itself and the safety and students.
