We’ve got new details about Black Panther’s role in Captain America: Civil War right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Wakanda’s finest is finally getting his due, but whose side is he really on? The first trailer for next summer’s highly anticipated Captain America: Civil War not only gave us some info on the conflict that will arise and ultimately lead to civil war in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it also gave us our first look at Black Panther in action. Thanks to previously leaked concept art, we’ve known for some time that Chadwick Boseman’s “Black Panther” would at some point side with Tony Stark and the trailer seemed to confirm that, but thanks to a recent Entertainment Weekly cover story, his allegiance may not be set in stone. According to the article, Black Panther’s introduction into the MCU will be much more than a cameo with Panther playing a key role in the conflict between Captain America and Iron Man. Panther will reportedly be on the hunt for Cap’s BFF, Bucky Barnes, which eventually leads him to side with Stark. As for why he’s after Bucky in the first place? We know from the trailer that Bucky is accused of some kind of terrorist attack and it’s hinted that Panther has a personal connection to it. Regardless of the reason though, Black Panther is described as having his own agenda and therefore may not stay on Iron Man’s side for long. According to executive producer Nate Moore, Panther is an “undecided voter” explaining quote, “He’s someone who hasn’t necessarily made up his mind about either side and whose agenda isn’t exactly what Cap’s agenda or what Tony’s agenda is. And I think that brings him into conflict weirdly with both characters at different times in the film. He is the prince of an African nation that has so far stayed very much sort of in the shadows. And eventually the film will draw him and his father out of the shadows.” As for what we can expect from the film version of Black Panther, Moore says he will be very different from the comic book version fans may be used to explaining that, in the comics, he is very wise and optimistic, but since the film will explore a younger version of the character who is just starting out, he’ll be more fiery and fallible. One thing that won’t be different though is the costume. Panther will be sporting his iconic vibranium suit with retractable claws and will utilize martial arts moves we haven’t seen before. Like in the comics, Panther will be trained in several different fighting styles and according to Boseman, he’ll also utilize moves based on different animals like cats and snakes to keep his opponents on their toes. We’ll all get a chance to see Black Panther in action on May 6th when Captain America: Civil War arrives in theaters, followed by his own standalone film on February 16th, 2018, but what do you think? Will he ultimately side with Iron Man or do you think he and Captain America are a better pair?
