Rumors about Mads Mikkelsen’s Rogue One character have hit the interwebs and we’ve collected the biggest scoops for you here on Clevver Newsfeed. Many Bothans died to bring us this information. Now that The Force Awakens has clearly situated itself as the highest domestic grossing movie of all time we can start focusing our attention elsewhere - like on more Star Wars movies. Each year for the foreseeable future to come, Disney is gifting a new Star Wars movie. From Han Solo and Boba Fett spinoffs to Episodes 8 and 9, but one that has captured everyone’s attention since the announcement is this year’s Rogue One. Little has been said about the film beyond that it will detail a group of rebels and bounty hunters out to steal the original Death Star plans ala The Dirty Dozen and it will be set shortly before the events of Episode IV, but now, ironically, leaks about this movie about the dangers of leaking information have…leaked. Besides the basic plot setup, the only other thing we’ve known about the film is the cast, which includes Casino Royale and Hannibal’s Mads Mikkelsen, and now we have potential details regarding his character. The Rumors, with a capital R, come from MakingStarWars.com which gave us some pretty accurate info when it came to The Force Awakens, so take it as you will. According to the site, Mads Mikkelsen will be playing a major scientist named “Galen” who has taken over the Geonsian Death Star Project, having solved many of the technical issues the Empire faced during its construction. However, much like Robert Oppenheimer, the Father of the Atom Bomb, Mikkelsen’s character appears to let the guilt of building a super weapon weigh heavily on his conscious and this leads to a desire for his character to cross the Empire and bring down the weapon of mass destruction. In doing so, he requires the help of his only daughter, rumored to be Felicity Jones’ character. That certainly sounds like a decent setup to the plot for us! Of course, some of us may be thinking, if he designed the Death Star and then wants to destroy it, wouldn’t it be easier to just tell his daughter about that big open vent you can fire proton torpedoes into instead of mounting a massively dangerous and deadly mission to steal the blueprints he designed? Perhaps knowing the Empire has ears everywhere and more than just one engineer on the project, Mikkelsen’s character knows he has to leave multiple weaknesses open knowing many of them will be found and covered up? Also, if he were to be captured and interrogated by someone powerful with the Force, say Darth Vader or the Emperor, leaving one flaw in a moment of weakness still leaves multiple others open for the Rebellion to expose. Additionally, this all leads some credence to the other rumor swirling around that Mads Mikkelsen’s character is the same as Max von Sydow’s in The Force Awakens. The first line of Episode 7 is spoken by Sydow’s Lor San Tekka who says, “This will begin to make things right.” Might this be an exiled Galen hiding under a new name?
