Next year’s Terminator Genisys sequel has been pulled from the schedule and we’ve got the details for you right now on Clevver Newsfeed. Those of you excited for the new Terminator trilogy, we’ve got some bad news for you. Paramount Pictures has officially removed the Terminator Genisys sequel off its schedule and given its May 19th, 2017 release date to the Dwayne Johnson/Zac Efron Baywatch movie. The studio had previously announced plans for a trilogy with the third film scheduled for June 29th, 2018, but after Genisys earned poor reviews and managed only $89 million in the US, its future remained questionable. The franchise reboot did manage to earn $350 million internationally, leaving some to think more films could be made, but that no longer seems to be the case. As for the future of the franchise, last October Skydance Media Chief Creative Officer Dana Golberg, who co-financed the film with Paramount, told a panel at The Wrap’s Media Leadership Conference that they were quote “re-adjusting” their plans for the franchise and were planning to use data and research to do a worldwide study in order to find out what audiences liked and didn’t like about Genisys to determine which direction to take the franchise. This process would push any new film to at least 2018, but time is definitely not on their side. The rights to The Terminator franchise are set to revert back to creator James Cameron in 2019 and unless they can work out some kind of deal with him, the best they could probably hope for is to release one more movie before then. In the meantime, it looks like Paramount is putting a lot of hope in the Baywatch movie, which is set to go into production next month. The film is being described as an action comedy that star Johnson said would be quote, “edgy, raunchy and hopefully, funny as all hell.” So, who out there is disappointed that we won’t be getting a Terminator Genisys trilogy and what do you think James Cameron will do with the franchise when he gets the rights back? Share your thoughts in the comments and then click here to see how we ranked all 5 current Terminator movies. I’m Misty Kingma, thanks for watching and we’ll see you soon with more movie news!
