For East L.A. and Beyond UCLA Bruin Softball fans, we offer you our video and photo gallery coverage of the team during a March 8th non-conference game vs. the Providence “Friars.” We hope you enjoy it with much pride as it presents a most rare NCAA Division 1 university sports team scenario. Stay with us as we present “Up Close and Personal” four of six Chicana/Latina student-athletes who are rostered members of this year’s nationally-ranked team. Returning for a brief spot interview was #42 Jelly Felix, the highly popular Bruin sophomore and Pride of Lincoln HS-LA. In speaking with Jelly, we then honored her request to interview three of her teammates. So for their East L.A. Sports Scene debut, it’s our pleasure to bring you brief interviews with Bruin softball players, #28 Samantha “Sam” Duran/SR/Utility, #12 Jazmine Sosa/ JR/Catcher, and #34 Isabella “Izzy” Ordorica/FR/Left Field. Brief Game Recap: The Bruins defeated the Friars by the score of 8-0. It featured the power hitting of Delaney Spaulding/SS and Stephany LaRosa/1B, solid base-running plus the brilliant one-hit performance of All-American pitcher, Ally Carda who boosted her season record to 11-3 with the win. In concluding our coverage, we interviewed Ally. Her victory in this game was very special as it capped off a great final pre-season tournament of the year, named in honor and memory of the Bruins’ former three-time NCAA Champion (1982/1984/1985) and two-time ASA All-American, Stacy Winsberg. Stacy passed away, a victim to cancer, in December, 2001. The tournament was started in 2002. 2nd Note From The Editor: On Tuesday, April 8th, in a non-conference game vs. the Cal State Fullerton “Titans,” Jelly was called upon by Coach Inouye-Perez as a pinch-hitter and promptly delivered another game-closing homerun with a teammate aboard. This occurred in the 5th inning and gave the Bruins their 32nd win of the season and a (6-3) PAC-12 record. The mercy rule was applied at that point in the game. Jelly is now batting .438 (7/16) with 2 HRs, 10 RBIs, and an .813 slugging %. To follow the Bruins for the rest of the season, click here for their home page.
